I’m sure everyone remembers the famous line in Breakfast at Tiffany’s when Holly Golightly talks of the ‘mean reds’. When you’re afraid and you don’t know what of. Having just recently been promoted at work, it seems ‘with great power, comes great responsibility’….and also the bummer of added drama and stress. So an overwhelming fear of something going insanely wrong at work, something that may never happen has come all over me – hence the mean reds. So what do I do to counter-attack? Fight the reds with red lipstick! I have only recently discovered the instant gratification of applying a slick of fresh red lipstick to make me feel just that bit more rejuvenated. I’ve also been seeing lots of people wear it so well… Michelle Williams at the Oscars, Ashley Olsen at the Anglomania ball but have been fearing the look to be a little strong. Applying straight from the tube without blotting is quite dramatic but really great if you can get it right. I tend to blot it down so that its quite matte and then put some lip balm over to kind of seal the colour. My red is actually a dark red because whenever I try bright red – it makes me look really clownish. It’s Chanel 36 shade russet moon if anyone’s interested and is suffering from the mean reds.
