Demode-ing it up….

Demode-ing it up….

A new word to add to my vocabulary.  is ‘fashion for the bravehearts’ and it’s also a recent discovery for me.  Based in Sweden, encouraging the strong willed in fashion, the ‘bravehearts’ that deserve some attention.  On 7th June, in collaboration with they held a that was about encouraging the personality to emerge and also to inspire experimentation.  I’m not sure what exactly it’s inspiring in me but it does present to me a conflicting view of Swedish style to the one I previously had which is also combined with the confusion of the ‘tunnel vision’ that the internet throws up.  When I interviewed recently, when I said I quite liked Stockholm (having been once…), she said ‘’s fucking boring!’.  Somehow though, many, MANY Swedish fashion blog has a pretty hardcore following that extends beyond Sweden but to be honest, I don’t really check them out often enough to really gauge whether I like them or not.  On-trend, pretty, MK-Olsen, vintage-based is what I very hazily gather…all very well but then D√©mode comes along and acts as a reaction to the aforementioned, and promotes a sentiment that I haven’t personally seen in the Swedish blogs that I have checked out (recommendations of that ilk are much appreciated of course…).

No conclusions/verdicts drawn here.  Just some thoughts about that all-popular, all-star topic of national streetstyle.  Ah…whatevs… enjoy the video…

The video is great, made me wonder if I would be able to organize something similar during Edinburgh festival.

I’m all for bows and polka-dots, and purposely bucking the looks you see every day…this seems interesting!

i got their email too… and while i am rather drawn to the face painted black…. i have to admire their spirit, although, i’m wondering if they are pulling the leg of fashion a bit.

I must confess, I really like the hazy/pretty/vintage Swedish sites I can’t read, but I also like these. One thing that bothers me a bit though is the whole thought of fashion as a “reaction.” I guess when I go with the thought, fashion is whatever you want it to be and there are no rules, then there’s nothing wrong with “reaction” styles or dressing just to cause a scene…I just wish fashion and art was a bit more organic, that people dressed in a way to please themselves not to fit in or to stir a crowd…
